Vickers Vigilant anti-tank missile

Also designated V.891, Vigilant stands for VIsually Guided Infantry Light ANti-Tank missile. Vigilant was developed by Vickers to fill an anti-tank role in the British Army. Designed for infantry use, Vigilant was also mounted on Ferret scout cars and Land Rovers.

Vigilant was wire guided and optically tracked.

A licenced built version for the US Marine Corps was called Clevite.

As Main Battle tanks became more heavily armoured, an ATGW with improved capability was required. This was Swingfire.
