Blue Yeoman AMES Type 85 radar

Blue Yeoman was the AMES Type 85, an advanced version of Orange Yeoman (q.v.) 3D tactical control and early warning radar. Originally designed by Associated Electrical Industries, AEI was taken over by Marconi in 1967.

Blue Yeoman was designed to possess a high power and anti-jamming capability. The radar was proposed for Violet Friend ABM system. The Type 85 was essentially a Blue Riband transmitter mounted on an Orange Yeoman aerial.

Blue Yeoman operated at 10cm at 2.75 / 3.25GHz with peak power of 54MW, a very powerful radar.
